Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) Ireland

Registered charity: CHY 6892

What is Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) Ireland?

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) is among Ireland's largest voluntary charitable organisations dedicated to supporting people experiencing poverty, hardship and exclusion. SVP members provide practical support through community services that include visitation, education grants, family and youth services, and social housing initiatives. The charity works across all Irish counties, focusing on alleviating immediate needs and advocating for social justice to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and inequality.

SVP operates through a network of local conferences and volunteers who work directly with individuals and families in their communities. While its origins are Irish, the wider Vincentian network also has affiliated societies in other countries, though the SVP Ireland operation is focused on needs within Ireland itself.

SVP Charity Shops

SVP's Vincent's charity shops are a core part of its fundraising and community work, with over 200 local shops across every county in Ireland. These stores sell new and pre-owned clothes, accessories, books, homewares, soft furnishings, and, in selected locations, second-hand furniture, all at affordable prices. Proceeds from shop sales are reinvested directly into local SVP services and support programmes. The shops are run by a small number of professionals supported by volunteers and community employment trainees, and are complemented by donation banks and furniture depots throughout Ireland.
