What is Dogs Trust?

Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and supporting responsible dog ownership. Founded in 1891 (originally as the National Canine Defence League), Dogs Trust works to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs in need, ensuring that every dog gets the chance to live a happy, healthy life in a loving home. The charity also provides behaviour and training support, campaigns on key canine welfare issues such as ending unnecessary destruction and puppy smuggling, and offers specialist services including free fostering support for dogs and owners in crisis.

Dogs Trust operates nationally across the United Kingdom and Ireland, with a network of 22 rehoming centres throughout these countries where dogs receive care and shelter while awaiting adoption. Its mission, "a dog is for life", underpins all of its work - from rehoming and veterinary care to community outreach and education on responsible pet ownership. Dogs Trust Ireland, based in Dublin, also plays a key role in improving canine welfare across Ireland.

Dogs Trust Charity Shops

Dogs Trust runs a growing network of charity shops across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, helping to raise essential funds for its dog welfare work. These shops - found in high streets from Muswell Hill and Hitchin to Wetherby and Bury St Edmunds - sell donated second-hand goods such as clothing, accessories, books, media, bric-a-brac and other unique preloved items. Proceeds from shop sales support Dogs Trust's rehoming centres, rescue operations and education services. Many shops also welcome volunteers and donors, and often stock dog-themed gifts and essentials for canine lovers.
