A month-by-month thrifter's favourite - everything you need to know before you go.
If you love second-hand treasure hunting in London, Chiswick Car Boot Sale is an absolute must-visit. Held monthly at Chiswick School on Staveley Road, it's one of the biggest and busiest car boots in the city - with an incredible mix of antiques, fashion, furniture, toys, homeware, and unexpected gems; you really do not want to miss it.

We've visited the boot sale every month for over a year, here's everything you need to know to make the most of it.
Where Is Chiswick Car Boot?
The boot sale takes place at Chiswick School - Staveley Road, W4 3UN, and is run entirely by parent volunteers from the school's PTA. All proceeds go directly back to supporting the school, which is one of the reasons this event has such a friendly, community-driven atmosphere.
The sale itself spans the school grounds, including a huge grass field and large paved areas.
👉 Important: If it has rained heavily in the days before, the grass field will be closed to protect cars from sinking into mud. On rainy months the car boot still runs - but only on the hard-standing areas, making it smaller but still substantial.
When Does The Car Boot Take Place?
The boot sale is held:
Every first Sunday of the month
Starts early morning
Finishes at 12:30 pm
From 12:00 pm onward, sellers begin packing up. If you want the best finds, arrive early - there's a lot to browse.
👉 Important: Given that the car boot is held on a school site, dogs are not allowed in! Be sure to leave your fur babies at home if you plan a visit!

How much does it cost to get in the car boot?
Prices differ depending on whether you're visiting to buy or to sell.
If you're visiting to sell, prices depend on whether you're a walk-in seller or have a truck to sell from. If you're just visiting as a walk-in buyer, the entry costs £1 per person. You can pay by card or cash at the gates. If you're coming by car and would like to use the parking facility, you'll have to pay £5 to get in (+ £1 per extra person in the vehicle). The full price breakdown of the car boot is available on their website.
👉 Pro tip - Get in for free with the Ganddee app! Chiswick Car Boot offers 100 free walk-in entries (£1 worth) each month to Ganddee users. Just show your app at the gate and you'll get in for nothing!
Leaving & Re-Entering The Car Boot (Important!)
There are no physical tickets.
If you need to leave (coffee run, cash run, etc.) and come back in, the staff will give you the monthly re-entry password (usually a simple word like cloud, rose, fox, etc.).
Say the password at the gate to re-enter for free.
What You'll Find at Chiswick Car Boot
Chiswick Car Boot has one of the broadest seller mixes in London:
Vintage & second-hand clothing
Antique collectibles
Mid-century homeware
Small furniture
Plants & flowers
Toys, books, games
Designer bargain pieces
Random treasures you didn't know you needed
There's also a food truck for coffee, pastries, drinks, and snacks.
On sunny days, the field opens and the market becomes huge - expect hundreds of stalls.

Parking & Getting There
Parking
There is parking on-site - but it’s limited.
Expect:
Queues
Circling the block
Waiting for spaces to free up
If you can, avoid driving, genuinely. If you drive, be prepared to wait (it can be a bit chaotic!)
Public Transport
You can get to the car boot in lots of different ways:
Train: Chiswick Station (easy from Waterloo)
Tube: District / Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith, then a short bus ride (2 stops)
Buses: Several routes stop nearby, check your local bus itinerary!
Cycling: Very easy with Lime bikes. You can also attach your bike to the fence inside of the parking lot.
Getting Cash
Some sellers take card - many don't (it's a car boot after all - these events are very cash heavy).
If you need cash, you can:
Head to the ATM near the Co-op by Chiswick Station (5-10min walk)
Get cashback at the on-site office (in the centre of the car park) - you can pay with phone or card and receive cash. Ask a member of the staff if needed!
Tips If You're Selling
Chiswick Car Boot is extremely popular - maybe the most competitive seller queue in London.
If you want a spot:
Arrive very, very early
And by early, we mean 2–3 AM early on busy months
Queue builds long before sunrise
No advance booking - first come, first served
Bring warm clothes, snacks, and patience.

Insider Tips for Buyers (from 12+ visits)
Go early: you truly need hours to browse everything.
Bring bags: you'll find more than you planned!
Wear comfy shoes: it’s huge.
Bring cash: many sellers prefer it and it's easy to haggle!
Check the weather: sunny = massive market, rainy = smaller but still good.
Don't forget to ask for the re-entry password if you're popping out, this will save you troubles if you need to get back in
This boot sale is a gem, highly recommend!
