What is British Heart Foundation?

British Heart Foundation (BHF) is one of the UK's leading health charities dedicated to fighting heart and circulatory diseases through research, prevention, and support. It funds world-class scientific studies aimed at understanding, treating, and preventing heart conditions, helping people live longer with better quality of life. Its work also includes public health campaigns, patient support services, and community education to reduce the impact of cardiovascular diseases across the UK.

The charity operates throughout the United Kingdom and has a strong national presence, with central governance in England & Wales and registered operations in Scotland. Its research funding and public programmes have a UK-wide impact, supporting scientists, clinicians and nurses in the fight against heart disease.

British Heart Foundation Charity Shops

The British Heart Foundation runs one of the largest charity shop networks in the UK, with hundreds of high-street and specialist retail outlets nationwide — historically accounting for around 700-plus shops including dedicated furniture and electrical stores. These shops sell donated goods such as clothing, books, accessories, furniture, electricals and bric-a-brac to raise funds for lifesaving heart research and support services. Many stores also coordinate free home collections for larger donated items, making them a key part of local recycling and reuse efforts while helping fund BHF’s mission across communities.
