What is British Red Cross?

The British Red Cross is a major humanitarian charity in the United Kingdom and part of the global International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It provides emergency response, crisis support and humanitarian aid both at home and around the world, helping people cope with disasters, conflicts, health emergencies and life-changing events. The charity's services include emergency response and support in the UK, refugee and migration assistance, first aid training and disaster resilience initiatives, as well as international relief work carried out in partnership with other Red Cross Societies.

Operating nationwide across England, Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man, the British Red Cross supports people in crisis regardless of background or circumstance, responding to emergencies at home - from house fires to major disasters - while also delivering international aid where it's needed most. With a history stretching back to 1870 and a network of thousands of volunteers and staff, the charity combines frontline services, advocacy and community programmes to strengthen resilience and provide vital help to people in urgent need.

British Red Cross Charity Shops

The British Red Cross runs one of the UK's largest charity shop networks, with hundreds of shops across the country offering high-street preloved shopping that funds its life-saving work. These shops sell donated second-hand goods including clothing, books, accessories, homewares, furniture and electrical items, with some specialist locations focusing on designer, vintage or wedding-dress stock.

Shops can be found in major towns and cities such as London (e.g., Portobello Road), Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow, Cambridge, Deal, Forest Hill, Edinburgh and Isle of Wight, and accept a wide range of donated items to support fundraising. You can also shop online via the British Red Cross's own eBay and online store. Proceeds help fund the charity's emergency response, community support and international humanitarian programmes, while volunteer involvement gives local communities a chance to participate directly in the charity's mission.
