Donating your pre-loved items is a great way to support meaningful causes, reduce waste, and make space in your home - without contributing to landfill. But not everyone has time to drop things off at a local shop, even more so when it's not clear when shops can or cannot accept donations.

The good news is: many UK charities now offer free home collection services. Here's what you need to know if you're donating furniture, electricals, or bags of clothes; and would like to use home collection services.
Which charities offer free home collection?

The BHF offers a free home collection service for furniture and larger electricals. Perfect for that sofa, wardrobe or microwave you no longer need. Book a pickup here: BHF Collection
2. The Air Ambulance

How home collection works (and what to check)
Each charity has different requirements for home collection of donations. Some only collect bulky items like sofas or fridges. Others need you to donate multiple bags of clothes and live near one of their shops.
Before you book:
Check what types of items they accept
Read their minimum donation requirements
Confirm you’re within their collection area
If you have a doubt, there's usually a phone number on their collection web page, so you can always call them to confirm. If in the end you don’t meet their home collection criteria, you still have options, as we'll see below.
3rd Party Collection Services
There are several third-party services that collect on behalf of charities. These are especially helpful for clothing and small household items. Such services are, for instance:
These services work with multiple UK charities and often have wider collection coverage.
Other ways to donate
If home collection isn't an option, you can still:
Donate by post: Some charities like Oxfam let you send donations via freepost. More info here
Use donation points: Found in supermarkets, co-working spaces (e.g. TRAID "collection bins" at WeWorks), car parks or high streets across the UK
Drop-off in store: Still the most common way to donate! Use the Ganddee app to find charity shops accepting donations near you.
Final tip
If you have quality items to give but can't drop them off, try a home collection service. It keeps good stuff in circulation and supports brilliant causes along the way 💚
Happy donating!
