Five Lanes Reuse Shop: The Second-hand Shop Fighting Climate Change

Five Lanes Reuse Shop is on a mission to reduce waste and tackle the climate crisis in its local community. Conveniently attached to the Caerwent waste recycling centre in South Wales, the shop saves preloved items from the skip and sells them on to raise money for a tree-planting project run by Monmouthshire County Council.

Selling Second-hand Items to Plant Trees
Trees planted in towns and cities absorb heat and emissions, and provide cool spots for pedestrians (and wildlife!). When you buy something from the Reuse Shop, 100% of the proceeds contribute to Town Trees, a campaign aiming to plant 10,000 trees in Monmouthshire's urban areas by 2028.

Buying Second-hand Helps Cut Waste
Recycling centre attendants are on-hand to intercept safe, useful items as they leave car boots, before they're condemned forever to the rubbish heap. In 2022, a rare 1930s Mickey Mouse toy was rescued just in time and has now found its forever home at nearby Pontypool Museum.
The huge amount of ever-changing stock highlights just how much would have been wasted without the efforts of the Five Lanes Reuse Shop. With a vast range of exciting, original, and vintage items to buy there, there's little need to buy anything new!

Opening Times, Access, and Donations
The Five Lanes Reuse Shop is open from 10am to 3pm every Wednesday. If you want to be in with a shot of finding the best stuff, we recommend arriving early, as the shop's always popular with the locals!
The staff welcome single donations during opening hours. Your item should be something that someone else would be willing to buy for a few pounds. If it's electrical or has moving parts, make sure it's in good working order, or you might have to take it home again!
Access is by car only. There's limited parking on-site, so be prepared for some nifty driving manoeuvres!
A Second-hand Shop Saving Waste From Landfill
It's amazing what people throw away! You'll find all sorts at the Reuse Shop. From chairs to antiques and collectables, it's a fantastic place to grab a bargain while supporting Monmouthshire's local climate resilience program.
