Peckham is one of the best places to thrift in South London. Rye Lane alone gives you a proper charity-shop crawl in a few hundred metres, and just off it you’ll find curated vintage, mid-century furniture and one of the city’s great second-hand bookshops.

Here’s the route, with addresses.

Getting there: Peckham Rye station drops you straight onto Rye Lane, which is where most of this guide happens. Everything except Nunhead is walkable from there.

Rye Lane: The charity shop crawl

Rye Lane is the heart of it. Four charity shops within a short walk of each other, so you can do the lot in an hour - or take your time.

Crisis

Easily one of the nicest charity shops in London. The stock is properly curated, the layout is genuinely lovely, and the staff are great. There’s also a coffee shop inside, which makes it an easy place to lose an hour.

TRAID

TRAID campaigns against the environmental and social cost of the clothing industry, and their Peckham shop is a reliable spot for circular fashion. Well worth a rummage for pre-loved clothes and accessories.

  • Address: 14-16 Rye Lane, SE15 5BS
  • Details: here

British Heart Foundation

Right at the top of Rye Lane, this BHF is a solid all-rounder: clothing, shoes, accessories, books and homeware, with stock turning over constantly.

  • Address: 10 Rye Lane, SE15 5BT

Sense

The disability charity’s Peckham shop, a little further down the lane - a friendly spot for clothes, books and bric-a-brac.

  • Address: 43 Rye Lane, SE15 5ER

Copeland Park: Vintage and mid-century

Duck off Rye Lane into Copeland Park and the mood changes - this is where Peckham’s vintage and furniture finds live.

Little Sister

A beautiful vintage shop, and one of the most enjoyable browses in the area. Carefully chosen pieces rather than endless rails, which is exactly what you want when you’re hunting for something with character.

  • Address: Unit 14, Copeland Park, 133 Rye Lane, SE15 4ST
  • Details: here

Vintique London

A warehouse full of mid-century, retro and vintage furniture - sideboards, record cabinets, drawers, desks, dining sets and armchairs. If you’re after a statement piece with a story, this is the spot. You can browse their stock online before you make the trip, but it’s more fun in person.

  • Address: Unit 2c, Copeland Park, SE15 3SN
  • Details: here

If you’re lucky with your timing, there may also be a flea market running at Copeland Park while you’re there - the site hosts them regularly. Also, keep an eye on Peckham car boot sale - you won’t want to miss it if it’s running while you’re browsing the area.

BOOKS: Second-hand books, worth the detour

A short walk from Rye Lane, BOOKS is one of the best second-hand bookshops in London. Reviewers rave about it, and rightly so: it’s great value, and the selection is the kind you won’t find on the high street - books you’d never come across anywhere else. If you’re a reader, don’t skip this one.

  • Address: 20 Maxted Road, SE15 4LF
  • Details: here

Nunhead: The Village Charity Shop & Café

A bit further out, but worth the walk. The Salvation Army’s shop on Nunhead Green is a lovely charity shop with a café attached - a good place to end the day with a browse and a sit-down.

  • Address: Nunhead Green, SE15 3QG
  • Details: here

A note on opening hours

Most of these shops keep broadly similar hours - roughly Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, with shorter Sunday opening where they open at all. A few differ, so it’s worth checking a shop’s current times on Ganddee before making a special trip.

Whether you stick to the Rye Lane crawl or work your way out to Copeland Park and Nunhead, Peckham is one of the most rewarding places to thrift in London.
