Church Stretton is a small market town in Shropshire. Think countryside walks, rolling hills, and plenty of cream teas. All as expected - but what wouldn’t you expect? A mini hub of brilliant second-hand shops.

And with direct trains from Birmingham and Manchester - in under two hours, it makes a perfect day out for a second-hand shopping trip if you fancy a change of pace.

Here are the best second-hand shops to check out on your visit.

Stroll Back in Time at The Antiques Market

Right on the high street, this three-story antique market has a bit of everything. Furniture, jewellery, records, tools… you name it! All at really reasonable prices.

Note: There’s no tearoom anymore. But you can still spend hours wandering from floor to floor.

Browse The Charity Shops

Charity shops are as common as tea rooms in Church Stretton (which is impressive). They’re super cheap, and in a small town like this, the good stuff tends to hang around a bit longer than it would in a big city - perfect for bargain hunters. Here’s a little tour of the town’s charity shop scenes.

The Rural Charity Shop

Turn a corner at the square to find two charity shops for the price of one. Two doors down from each other, one focuses on furniture, while the other (formerly the Dog Shop) sells clothes and all sorts of bits and bobs.

  • Address: 21 High St, Church Stretton, SY6 6BX
  • Opening hours: Mon – Sat 10 am – 3:45 pm | Sun Closed

British Red Cross Shop

This British Red Cross is my personal favourite. They get loads of ZARA stock at around half the original price, usually with only tiny faults.

  • Address: 8 Sandford Ave, Church Stretton, SY6 6PW
  • Details: find all details about this shop here

Note: If you want the best pre-loved bits, go first thing towards the end of the week. That’s when new stock comes in!

Get crafty at Scrappies

For all the creatives out there, Scrappies is packed with all things arts & crafts. Everything is recycled or end-of-line and incredibly cheap (I recently picked up a roll of Sellotape for 10p).

  • Address: 1 Sherratt Court, Beaumont Rd, Church Stretton, SY6 6BN
  • Opening hours: Wed 10 am – 5 pm | Thur – Sat 10 am – 4 pm  | Sun – Tue Closed

Note: It’s only open four days a week, so plan your trip wisely.
